One of the deserts most unique and popular attractions is the Palm Springs Aerial Tram. The world’s largest rotating tramcar travels 2 1/2 miles up the side of Mount San Jacinto. During a 15-minute ride the rotating tramcar offers a 360-degree breathtaking view of approximately 50 miles of the Coachella Valley. At the mountain station 8,516 above Palm Springs, you’ll find it 20 to 30 degrees cooler so you may want to wear your snow gear in the winter. There is a restaurant and café at the top and over 54 miles of hiking trails... so plan to stay the day and don’t forget your camera.


If you prefer to keep your feet on the ground, the Living Desert Zoo and Gardens covers 1,200 acres of desert indigenous flora and fauna and over 450 animals from giraffes to mountain lions to owls. You’ll need your walking shoes and plenty of sun block no matter what the time of year.

What’s in store for you in Palm Springs?


El Paseo and the Gardens at El Paseo are locally know as the “Rodeo Drive" of the desert. From Gucci to St. Johns to Saks Fifth Avenue, El Paseo brings the luxurious fashion and style from the New York runways to our desert shoppers.


There’s great shopping in downtown Palm Springs. Browse through trendy shops and boutiques along Palm Canyon Drive for unique local gifts and souvenirs. Thursday nights enjoy an evening at the Village Fest in the heart of downtown Palm Springs. This weekly event begins at 6 p.m. and features over 100 vendors of local arts, crafts, food, flowers, farmer’s market produce, gifts and live music. Come early for dinner and stay late. Cruise the vendors and shops that stay open until 10 p.m.


The College of the Desert in the city of Palm Desert is also the home of a weekly street fair held on Saturdays and Sundays from 7 a.m. until 2 p.m. Much like the Village Fest, the COD Street Fair offers over 100 local vendors. The perfect place to pick up a special desert gift or souvenir.


Desert Hills Premium Outlets is another popular shopping attraction in the area. Well worth the 20 minute drive to Cabazon, this outside shopping center hosts over 130 name brand stores such as Coach, Dior, Yves St. Laurent and Prada.

When you visit the desert be sure to bring your appetite. From formal to casual … you will not want to miss a bite! The Palm Springs area offers some of the most savory dinning experiences in Southern California. From renowned prime steakhouses and lavish casino buffets to quaint bistros... there is truly a feast for every fancy.


Old world charm, atmosphere and outstanding cuisine can be found at local favorites such as Spencer’s, nestled at the base of the San Jacinto Mountains, Melvyn’s at the Ingleside Inn or Riccios. For more casual dinning both Sherman’s Deli and Las Casuelas offer an excellent menu and outdoor seating for the best people watching in Palm Springs.

In La Quinta, enjoy casual dining at Arnold Palmer’s or Clint Eastwood’s famed Hogs Breath Inn overlooking Old Town La Quinta.


The River in Rancho Mirage is one of the desert’s newest dinning and entertainment venues. Here you can enjoy dinner and a movie or grab a Starbucks coffee or Ben and Jerry’s ice cream. The River is located on the corner of Highway 111 and Bob Hope Drive. The Cheesecake Factory, Babe’s B-B-Que Grill and Brewery, The Yardhouse, P.F. Changs China Bistro, Pieros Acqua Pazza and Maki Maki California Japanese Cusine are just a sampling of The River’s outstanding "menu" of restaurants!


Dinner and a stroll on El Paseo in Palm Desert offers many tasty choices such as Tommy Bahama’s, Restorante Mamma Gina, Café Des Beaux-Arts, Sullivan’s Steakhouse and the list goes on!
